Back Extensions and What You Should Know

Thought this would be a good blog post (via NiaShanks.com) to share as I've seen many people perform this exercise with intensions of strengthening the back, but instead do more harm then good. I encourage you to read and watch the video even if you know the "proper" way to perform this exercise.

"The Athlete" - Understanding body type diversity

"The Athlete" is a collection of photographs of various Olympic athletes by Howard Schartz and Beverly Ornstein.

The author of this blog post said it best...
"This photoshoot serves as awesome reference reminding us artists that strong bodies come in all kinds of shapes and sizes and muscles show up in different ways. It also helps us keep in mind that not everyone who is fit is also lean. There’s often a layer of fat over the muscles, making them less visible for some....

Reminder to self and others: fitness does not always equal perfect washboard abs."

Split Squat with Knee drive for improved power and speed

While training for my upcoming Deadlift competition I was thinking through some single leg movements that would allow me to train my legs explosively while reducing the overall fatigue a bilateral (2 leg) squat would have on my nervous system.

why short intense workouts?

I think its important to always ask "why?"
Why are you doing something?
Is it still working?
Is there a way to make it better?

This is one of the reasons why I've come to love short intense workouts.

Just returned from grocery shopping at Trader Joe's.  Figured I'd share what a typical trip to the store consists of for my Fiance and I.

Check out video of Oregon State defensive tackle Stephen Paea (6-foot-1, 300 pounds) at the 2011 Combine setting the 225 lb Bench Press record with 49 reps.

Paea broke the old record of 45, which was held by three players -- Mitch Petrus(notes) (2010), Mike Kudla (2006) and Leif Larsen (2000).
